Equipment & Gear Guide
Understand the gear system to outfit your martial artist for any challenge
Equipment System Overview
Where Winds Meet features a tiered equipment system with five rarity levels: Common (white), Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), Epic (purple), and Legendary (gold). Each tier increases base stats and the number of available enhancement slots. Equipment is obtained through enemy drops, quest rewards, crafting, and world exploration.
Your character has several equipment slots: Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon, Head Armor, Body Armor, Hand Armor, Leg Armor, Foot Armor, and two Accessory slots. Each slot contributes to your overall combat rating, and set bonuses from matching armor pieces provide powerful additional effects.
Equipment level is independent of your character level. You can equip any item at any character level, but the effectiveness of equipment is scaled based on your proficiency with that weapon or armor type. This means a high-level sword in the hands of a new player will perform worse than its stats suggest.
Durability is a factor for all equipment. Items degrade with use and must be repaired at blacksmith NPCs found in major towns. Letting durability reach zero temporarily disables the item's stats and bonuses until repaired. Carrying repair kits in your inventory allows field repairs during extended exploration sessions.
Weapon Types
Each class has access to a primary and secondary weapon type. The Swordsman uses the Jian (straight sword) and can equip a shield in the off-hand. The Spearmaster wields the Qiang (spear) with variants including the short spear for faster attacks and the long spear for extended reach.
The Healer uses a fan (Shan) as a primary weapon for channeling Qi, with talismans as a secondary tool for applying buffs and debuffs. The Blademaster wields dual Dao (curved blades) that can be swapped for a single heavy saber for slower but more powerful strikes.
The Brawler uses fist weapons and gauntlets, with heavy gauntlets offering more damage at the cost of attack speed. Secondary grappling chains can be equipped for extended combo options and crowd control pulls.
Weapon specials are unique abilities tied to individual weapons rather than the class itself. A rare Jian might have a freezing effect on critical hits, while a legendary Qiang could grant temporary invincibility after a successful parry. These specials add significant variety within each class and make finding the right weapon an important part of the build process.
Upgrading & Enhancement
Equipment upgrades are performed at blacksmith NPCs using crafting materials gathered from the world. Each upgrade level increases base stats by a fixed percentage. Upgrading is generally more resource-efficient than trying to find a higher-tier item of the same level, especially for Epic and Legendary equipment.
Enhancement slots can be filled with gems and runes found throughout the world or purchased from vendors. Gems provide flat stat bonuses (attack power, critical rate, health), while runes offer special effects (life steal, bonus damage against specific enemy types, elemental resistances). Choose enhancements that complement your class strengths.
The Soul Infusion system, unlocked at level 30, allows you to transfer stats from one piece of equipment to another. This is the primary endgame gearing mechanic - find a Legendary item with great special effects, then infuse it with stats from your best upgraded gear. Soul Infusion is expensive but preserves your investment in upgraded equipment.
Don't over-invest in upgrading Common or Uncommon gear. Resources become more scarce at higher upgrade levels, and you will outlevel low-tier equipment quickly. Focus upgrading resources on Rare and above items that you plan to use for an extended period.
Armor Sets & Set Bonuses
Armor sets in Where Winds Meet provide powerful bonuses when multiple pieces from the same set are equipped simultaneously. Most sets have bonuses at 2-piece, 4-piece, and full 6-piece thresholds. The 2-piece bonus is typically a moderate stat boost, while the 6-piece bonus often fundamentally changes how a class plays.
Early game sets like the Traveler's Garb and Militia Armor are easy to obtain and provide solid bonuses for new players. The Traveler's Garb set increases movement speed and exploration-related stats, making it ideal for the early game when you are discovering the map. The Militia Armor set boosts defense and health regeneration.
Mid-game sets include the Shadow Dancer set (agility and critical damage), the Iron Fortress set (defense and damage reduction), and the Jade Scholar set (Qi regeneration and healing power). These sets are obtained through dungeon rewards and faction reputation vendors.
Endgame Legendary sets like the Dragon Emperor's Battlegear and the Heavenly Cloud Raiment are the ultimate goal for dedicated players. These sets require materials from the hardest dungeons, world bosses, and high-level crafting. Each Legendary set is tailored to a specific class and dramatically enhances that class's core mechanics.
